Health Science Program of Study
This course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, technical skills, and work habits required for an entry-level position in the medical Industry field by offering utilizing real-world scenarios. This course places a strong emphasis on ethics, accountability, professionalism, and the individuals' commitment to the pursuit of lifelong personal, educational and professional development, as it relates to the medical insurance billing and coding field. Students will earn an Industry Based Certification in Phlebotomy, EKG, Patient Care Technician, and Medical Assistant. Students will be earning the IBC's through the partnership of TAFT ISD and Del Mar College. This partnership prepares students to enter the medical workforce after high school graduation.
Principles of Health Science (9th Grade, 1 Credit, No Prerequisites)
Medical Terminology (10th Grade, 1 Credit, No Prerequisites)
Practicum in Health Science (First Year) - Electrocardiography – EKG & Phlebotomy ( 11th Grade, 2 Credits, Prerequisite: Medical Terminology)
Practicum in Health Science, (Second Year) - Patient Care Technician – PCT & Medical Assistant - MA (12th Grade, 1 Credit, Prerequisites: Successful completion of Health Science First Year & obtained EKG & Phlebotomy Certifications
