Sergio Leal Jr. came back the 2026 THSPA State Champion in the 132lb weight class for the second time in his career. He also earned awards for breaking the record twice in bench press, breaking the total weight record and for Most Impressive bench press in the light weight division.

Our girls basketball team made a historic run to the Conference 3A Division II Elite Eight. Our boys powerlifting team had 4 Greyhounds qualify for State with Sergio Leal winning a state championship. Our girls powerlifting team had 1 athlete qualify for state with other outstanding regional performances. Our Winterguard team returned to competition and placed 6th in the State South Zone competition in their division. #TPND
Taft ISD 2024 Bond Update
Concrete pour scheduled for 3/27 at the new HS site has been rescheduled to Tuesday (3/31) for Area 4D (cafeteria). Work will begin at 3 AM with heavy construction equipment and lights present in the early morning hours. Drone pics show where the foundation area has been prepared before this pour occurs.
At the baseball & softball fields, the foundation has been poured at the concession stand site and construction should continue as the restrooms and concession stand is built. Construction meetings continue to take place weekly to address any issues that may arise as the district moves through this process. #TPND
Taft ISD 2024 Bond Update
Another concrete pour took place at the new site for the High School in Area 5 with prep already beginning for the next concrete pour as well. The next concrete pour will be on Friday, March 27th, for Area 4D (cafeteria area of the site plan). Workers will be on the site early in the morning with lights and heavy equipment to do the pour.
Prep on the foundation site for the concession stand at the baseball & softball field took place this week with another concrete pour at that site scheduled for Friday afternoon. Walls continue to go up on the new gym and locker room areas of the new high school. #TaftPride
The next section of the site plan (Area 5) continues to be prepped for foundation work. The concrete pour for this area will be on Friday, March 20th and begin in the early morning hours. There will be bright lights and heavy equipment at the site starting at approximately 3 AM so please be careful when you are driving near the construction site.
Walls are beginning to go up on the gym and locker room areas on the west side of the site. This work will continue and then interior work will begin once all of the walls have been erected. #TaftPride
Staff could choose to work/play in the Education Foundation golf tournament, go on a nature walk/hike at the beach or participate in Greyhound Camp sessions. Here are some pics from some of the activities that took place on Friday (see previous post for staff participating in golf tourney). We hope everyone enjoyed their day and wish all of our staff a relaxing Spring Break!
Taft ISD Food Pantry Food Distribution is scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM in the PK (back) Loop at Woodroe Petty Elementary. The distribution is open to student families, staff, and community members.

Taft ISD Bond 2024 Update
The second concrete pour took place on Feb. 23rd on the west side of the site where the new gym will be located. Sewer drainage continues to be installed around the site near the sidewalks. The remainder of the site plan continues to be prepped for foundation work and concrete pours to take place in the coming weeks.
Perimeter fencing has been completed around the baseball & softball fields and the entrance gates have been installed. The on deck circles are being moved closer to the home plate circle to prevent injuries. Foundation work for the concession stand is also taking place. #TaftPride
